Dr. Mikaela Betka
Mikaela Betka, OD knows that patients have to see how much you care before they care how much you know. She lives by this mantra to help patients of all ages realize their best possible vision. Her quest is to help kids improve their vision in order to do better in school and in life. She’s an expert in children’s visual issues and leads our Vision Therapy department. Dr. Betka wanted to return to her roots after receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University. Growing up on a small farm outside of Diller, NE, she suffered a small eye injury as a child and knew she wanted to be an optometrist ever since.
In her personal life, Dr. Betka enjoys spending time with her husband and their family dog, Samson.
Dr. Courtney Brightman
Courtney Brightman, OD is an optometrist that easily connects with her patients. She specializes in comprehensive exams and ocular disease treatment. She’s smart and personable, two great traits that make her patients feel confident in her care. She has been providing state-of-the-art optometric care for over 15 years in Lincoln, NE. A true leader, Dr. Courtney Brightman served as the President of the Southeast Optometric Society from 2005-2008. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Nebraska Optometric Association. She is also a Volunteer Optometrist for Clinic with a Heart.
Dr. Courtney Brightman is married to fellow optometrist Dr. Brian Brightman and lives in Lincoln, NE with their three children.
Dr. Brian Brightman
Brian Brightman, OD has been an EyeCare Specialties optometrist since 2005. His goal is to help you achieve your clearest and most comfortable vision. His specialties include comprehensive eye exams, ocular disease detection and treatment including Ocular Surface and Dry Eye, and helping patients find comfort with their vision. A member of both the American Optometric Association and the Nebraska Optometric Association, Dr. Brightman enjoys giving back to the community in many ways including offering Infant See® eye exams, free eye exams at Clinic with a Heart, and See to Learn® vision assessments.
Dr. Brightman managed to use his charismatic approach to persuade fellow optometrist Dr.Courtney Brightman to marry him, and together, they enjoy spending time with their three children.
Dr. James Devine
James Devine, OD is one of the co-founders of EyeCare Specialties in Lincoln, NE and he brings years of experience to the EyeCare team. The hallmark of Dr. Devine’s practice is his genuine interest and concern for his patients. Dr. Devine specializes in comprehensive eye exams, specialty contact lens fitting, and post-operative eye care. Dr. Devine is a graduate of the Southern College of Optometry. During his career, he has won recognition for his skills in the field of optometry, served on the governing boards of major optometric associations, and is currently a member of the American Optometric Association. He has been awarded the Nebraska Optometric Association Distinguished Service Award and has been named Optometrist of the Year.
Dr. Devine is married to his wife Laura and they have four children. He enjoys many outdoor activities and involvement at his church.
Dr. Doug Harshman
Doug Harshman, OD has practiced optometry for more than 15 years. His patients have appreciated his honest and genuine approach to their eye care needs. He specializes in ocular disease including dry eye treatment, urgent care services, comprehensive family eye care, and specialty contact lens fittings. Originally from Nebraska City, Dr. Harshman also received recognition in the field of optometry while living in Washington state. He has lectured and is published on various topics regarding ocular disease.
Dr. Harshman is married to his wife Amy, and enjoys spending time with their two children, volunteer-coaching his children’s sports teams, assisting in the classroom at his children’s school, teaching Sunday School at New Covenant Community Church, and playing an occasional round of golf. He is also involved in local and international optometric mission work.
Dr. Steve Jacobsen
Steve Jacobsen, OD has been taking care of patients in Fremont, NE for years. He blends his fun-loving nature with a mature, common-sense approach in providing his patients with a heartfelt, professional experience. Growing up on a farm in rural North Central Iowa, Dr. Jacobsen always knew that he wanted to become an optometrist and take care of people’s eyes. He received his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1971.
Dr. Jacobsen is married to his first love and enjoys spending time with her, their two daughters, and their grandchildren. In his spare time, he plays trombone with the North Bend Area Community Band and displays his artwork at various local galleries.
Dr. Jacob Nordhues
Dr. Nordhues has always had a love for science and a fascination with the eyes, which is what inspired him to become an optometrist. He’s excited to provide comprehensive primary eye care to all ages, contact lens fittings, and advanced care of ocular diseases. He’s especially passionate about working with children and addressing common ocular issues involving near work. Dr. Nordhues is on a personal mission to educate parents on the importance of scheduling eye exams for their children early on. Born and raised in Grand Island, Dr. Nordhues is thrilled to move back near his home and family. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 2017. During his externships, Dr. Nordhues received specialized training in ocular disease, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry-eye treatment.
During his medical training in Tennessee, Dr. Nordhues participated in weekly vision screenings at elementary and middle schools utilizing chair skills and retinoscopy, as well as volunteered for a Remote Area Medical (RAM) trip where doctors and students provided free vision and ocular health examinations to under-served and uninsured patients. He also was a member of Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH) providing exams and services to patients in Merida, Mexico.
Dr. Nordhues is married and has two young children. He enjoys playing softball, racquetball, tennis, and travel.
Dr. Dan Novak
Dan Novak, OD enjoys his job and loves being able to help a wide range of patients, from babies to their grandparents. He feels it is so important to help patients of all ages have their best possible vision. Dr. Novak is highly involved in leadership development programs and looks forward to giving back to the industry. He serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Nebraska Optometric Association and has completed the Young Leadership Program for the organization.
Dr. Novak says that with his growing family and growing practice, EyeCare Specialties is a great place to be. He and his wife enjoy spending time with their three young children. He is an avid golfer and volunteers with the Knights of Columbus, helping them with a variety of charitable causes.
Dr. Todd Pfeil
Since 2005, Todd Pfeil, OD has been providing both routine and comprehensive eye health exams at EyeCare Specialties. His expertise is in specialty contact lens fittings, including keratoconus and corneal refractive therapy. A member of both the American Optometric Association and the Nebraska Optometric Association, Dr. Pfeil’s career has taken him all over the world, seeing patients from many different walks of life. Through Shared Vision International and The Haitian Timoun Foundation, he regularly travels to Haiti to provide eye exams and eyewear to those in need.
Dr. Pfeil is married and enjoys running in half and full marathons with his wife when not chasing after their children.
Dr. Scott Reins
Scott Reins, OD has been putting his patients at ease with his easy-going manner and confidence since 1996. He specializes in comprehensive eye exams and ocular disease detection and treatment, including Dry Eye Disease. A member of both the American Optometric Association and the Nebraska Optometric Association, Dr. Reins is an active leader in the optometric industry, serving as the president of his State Association and was recognized as the 2014 Optometrist of the Year in Nebraska.
Involved both in and out of the clinic, Dr. Reins has volunteered his time with the Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program, and has been on Optometric Mission trips to Honduras.
Dr. Reins enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and traveling to various National Parks and other vacation spots. He enjoys golfing, playing old man basketball, and spending time on the water.
Dr. Steve Sandman
Since 1995, Steve Sandman, OD, has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for his patients and continually providing the latest optometric technologies with honest and compassionate care. He specializes in comprehensive eye exams, diagnosing and treating various ocular diseases including Dry Eye disease, and providing urgent eye care for those in need. Dr. Sandman has been dedicated to serving the Beatrice community. He serves on the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center Board of Directors and the Beatrice Public Library Foundation. He is also a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
A true Nebraskan, Dr. Sandman loves to cheer on the Huskers. He also enjoys vacationing in the Ozarks and spending quality time together with his family.
Dr. Kim Tucker
Kim Tucker, OD joined EyeCare Specialties in 2000. A compassionate and talented optometrist, Dr. Tucker practices full-scope primary care optometry including post-operative care, pediatric optometry, and ocular disease detection and treatment. A graduate from Indiana University School of Optometry in 2000, Dr. Tucker has given back to the optometric community as a member of many industry associations and has taught ophthalmic and diagnostic procedures to future doctors. Dr. Tucker also serves on the board of the Lincoln Children’s Museum.
Dr. Tucker enjoys spending time with her husband Ron and their two children. They appreciate traveling and being outdoors.
