Our Vision Therapy Team

Our optometrists work with a team of trained vision therapists to develop a program unique for each patient. Our goal is to help our patients reduce the frustration in their lives by improving their visual efficiency and visual processing skills. Often times, our younger patients have been struggling in the classroom and have given up hope that their grades could improve. Our adult patients will experience headaches and fatigue which often can result in poor job performance. Our entire team looks forward to working with you to help you realize the best possible vision.

Dr. Mikaela Betka, FCOVD

Mikaela Betka, OD knows that patients have to see how much you care before they care how much you know. She lives by this mantra to help patients of all ages realize their best possible vision. Her quest is to help people of all ages improve their vision in order to do better in school, work, and in life. She’s an expert in visual issues and leads our Vision Therapy department. Dr. Betka wanted to return to her roots after receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University. Growing up on a small farm outside of Diller, NE, she suffered a small eye injury as a child and knew she wanted to be an optometrist ever since.

In her personal life, Dr. Betka enjoys spending time with her husband and their family dog, Samson.

Erin’s easy-going personality and passion for children have made her a huge asset at the clinic. She has a knack for getting patients to do the “work” of therapy, all the while having fun doing it. Erin has worked for EyeCare Specialties since 2008. She enjoys helping patients feel more confident in their lives and watching their progress.

Rose was born to work with children. She’s the best combination of your favorite teacher, neighbor, and aunt. It’s obvious she genuinely cares about each and every patient. Rose is a lifetime Lincolnite. She has always loved working with children and worked at Lincoln Public Schools as a paraeducator for 10 years before coming to EyeCare Specialties. She has been helping children and adults improve their vision and change their lives for 15 years as a vision therapist.

Kelsey’s background focused on educational development and fostering learning skills. She discovered Vision Therapy and became fascinated with the idea of helping a child’s visual system in order to help them do better in school and in life. Also, as an English major, anything she could do to help develop a love of reading was exciting to her. She enjoys working one-to-one with patients and finding out which activities help them to become motivated and achieve their goals.

Cherise discovered Vision Therapy through tutoring kids who struggle to learn and/or have special needs. She decided to become a Vision Therapist because it allowed her to directly impact the lives of people who want to improve their vision and ability to learn. She loves that being a Vision Therapist is intellectually stimulating and a worthy challenge that helps people improve their visual skills. Each patient’s experience presents new growth opportunities and sets them on a path for dramatic changes to their vision – and their entire lives!
